Ceremony location: Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Reception location: Fountain Square Theatre

Honeymoon location: Las Vegas

Wedding date: November 3, 2012

When did you first meet: June 2007

Where did you first meet: We met at a get together that a mutual friend brought me to. I did not know anyone other than my friend, but Chris was very friendly and easy to talk to.  He made me feel very welcome.  I was comfortable around him INSTANTLY.

When did you know you were going to marry him: I knew that I was going to marry Chris after I saw the way that he took my grandmother’s arm to help her in and out of her car.  He was so sweet to my family and treated them as if they were his own.  After I saw this, I knew he was THE one!

How did he propose: He was coaching 7th grade boys’ basketball at the time.  We had just finished watching one of the games at the school where he teaches.  We were on our way to my parent’s house to see my brother’s family that was in town from Evansville, IN.  He informed me that we were going to take a longer way to get there because of an accident on the interstate at the time.  Little did I know that he was actually taking me through a mini-tour of some memorable places for us.  He drove past where we had our first date, where we kissed for the first time, and the house that he lived in when we first started dating.  When we drove by Ellenburger Park, he pulled over and parked quickly.  He jumped out and asked that I follow him because he said that he thought he saw my parent’s dog running around.  I was confused but I followed as he was running quickly.  He stopped me and then told me that he had driven past some of our memorable spots for a reason.  He got on one knee with our song “My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw playing on his phone and told me that he chose this park because it is where our future children will play when they visit their grandparents and he wanted to be able to show them the tree where he proposed to me.  He asked me to marry him after telling me why I’m his best friend and of course I said yes!  Afterward we greeted my happy family that had known of his plan all along.  They were waiting with champagne and smiling faces.

Favorite thing to do together:  We have a lot of activities that we enjoy together, but one of our favorite things to do together is play vintage video games.  We particularly love playing Mario Kart on Super Nintendo.

Wedding colors: Royal blue, red, and silver

Number of guests: 170

Number in wedding party: 14

Wedding style: The wedding was traditional with a vintage feel.

Beauty style: Very vintage for the bride. I had a birdcage veil and deep red lips with Smokey-eye makeup.

Dress style: My dress was a fit and flare with cap sleeves and a diamond cut out in the back.

Most unique wedding personalization: We felt that our reception venue was very unique since it was at the Fountain Square Theatre.  We had some very unique wedding pictures because of some of the theatre features.

Something you did very different: The Bridesmaids chose their dress and shoe styles.  They were told what color for the dress and shoes, but I wanted them to choose a style that they were comfortable wearing.  I found it lovely to see what they all chose and it was interesting to see the different styles as they walked down the aisle.  I thought it was important for them to feel comfortable with what they were wearing and for it to look like something that was their own personal style.

Something you did very traditional: My father walked me down the aisle to give me away.

Something you would do all over again: We hosted our bachelor and bachelorette parties on the same weekend.  It was a great idea because we had some couples where the wife was a bridesmaid and the husband was a groomsman on my husband’s side.  They would’ve had to travel into town more than once if we had our parties on different weekends.  I also had my Bridal shower that afternoon before my bachelorette party.

Something you would never do again: We would never host a large wedding again for cost purposes.  We paid for a lot of the wedding ourselves and it was stressful to not only financially plan, but to logistically plan for such a large guest list.

Most memorable wedding moment: Our most memorable moment was actually in the limo on the way back to our hotel.  The limo driver was playing the song “Shots” by LMFAO.  Most of our Bridal party and many of our closest friends were in the limo with us.  Everyone was singing and dancing.  We took videos on our phones of it and it was just such a great end to a wonderful night.  It truly captured the spirit of fun that we had throughout the evening.

Best wedding decision: We were so happy that we chose Fountain Square Theatre as our reception venue.  The theatre is not only so unique in design, but the food was fantastic.  We were able to taste samples of the food beforehand, and we were so impressed with what we were given.  Also, their food and drink service packages were very reasonably priced.

Best wedding overall advice: Wedding planning is stressful, especially if you are financially in charge of a lot of the planning.  Whenever we had to sit down and talk over budget, we tried to make the environment fun instead of focusing on the stress.  We would turn on a fun station on Pandora and open a bottle of wine.  It did not totally take the stress away, but it made it much less daunting.  Try making these discussions as STRESS FREE as possible.
