Wedding date: December 29, 2012

When did you first meet: We met at Freshmen Orientation at Duke University in 2005.  There were several activities that week and one of them was “The Chapel Climb” where we climbed to the top of the Duke Chapel.  Nate and his baseball teammates were standing behind me and my friends in line.  We were friends for Freshman year and then starting dating the first day of Sophomore year.

When did you know you were going to marry him: I knew I was going to marry Nate the summer after Sophomore year.  We had been dating for just under a year and I went to visit him at Cape Cod where he was playing in a summer baseball league.  After those few weeks away from school, I knew.

How did he propose: Nate proposed in late October of 2011 in Bali.  He was caddying for me in several golf tournaments in Asia after his baseball season had finished and we had a week off in between tournaments in Taiwan and Japan.  So instead of going all the way back to the States, we went to Bali for the week.  The second night we were there, we took a walk on the beach after dinner.  We were the only ones on the beach and it was absolutely beautiful out.  Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! He had been carrying the ring with him for the past two weeks in Malaysia and Taiwan and I had NO idea.  It was a complete surprise.

Favorite thing to do together: We love just spending time together doing anything.  Our favorite activities to do together are cooking dinner, working out, going on bike rides, betting on the The Bachelor and traveling.

Wedding colors: Plum and Ivory

Number of guests: 200

Number in wedding party: 5 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen

Wedding Style: Romantic Elegant

Beauty style: Romantic

Dress style: A-Line, Sweetheart neckline and a lace waist and lace trimming on the skirt and trim.  Very romantic.  Made by Casablanca.

Most unique wedding personalization: We had our family and friends play a huge part in our wedding.  My father’s best friend was our officiant, our family friend (Kirsten) was our photographer, our MC was the DJ at my parents’ wedding and one of their best friends, and we had my cousins, brother and sister do the readings during the ceremony.  It made our whole day very special.

Something you did very different: Instead of having a normal guest book, we had a photo booth where for four hours our guests could take goofy pictures with props, keep one copy and then paste the other to our guest scrap book and write a note next to their pictures.

Something you did very traditional: Our whole ceremony was very traditional, from our wedding party in matching dresses and tuxes, to my father walking me down the aisle, to the readings and prayers, to the first kiss.

Something you would do all over again:  I would definitely have our wedding at a resort again. We had our ceremony and reception site within 100 feet of each other.  And because almost all of guests were staying at the resort, it became a wedding week where the celebration started a few days before the wedding and continued days after (including New Year’s Eve).

Something you would never do again: I didn’t want to look at the ceremony site before the wedding (I wanted to be surprised) but I really wish that I would have.  The chuppa was too short and I would have rearranged the aisle decorations.  I would never leave that part of the wedding up to chance.

Most memorable wedding moment: My most memorable moment was when our officiant pronounced us husband and wife and we kissed for the first time as a married couple.

Best wedding decision: Deciding to have the wedding at the resort and having an acoustical guitar play during the ceremony processional.

Best wedding overall advice: Take time throughout the day to really enjoy the wedding and reception. SMELL THE ROSES! I could not believe how incredibly fast the day flew by.
