Bride-Stefanie Husejnovic (Bricker)

Groom-Damir Husejnovic

Ceremony location: Scottish Rite Cathedral- South Lounge

Reception location: Scottish Rite Cathedral- Banquet Hall

Honeymoon location: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

WHEN: October 20, 2012

WHY: We wanted to get married in October over my Fall Break from school (I’m a teacher), so we chose the 20th. We found out later that the 20th was actually “Sweetest Day!”

When did you first meet: We met in April of 2010. We were introduced by my cousin at a dinner with a group of friends at Buffalo Wild Wings. He introduced us without the intention of us getting together, but still claims to be the ultimate match-maker!

How did he propose: The proposal was a complete surprise; I had NO idea it was coming. Damir asked my parents for their permission and planned the proposal on his own-including picking out my beautiful ring. He invited me over; I came in and followed a trail of rose petals up the stairs. He greeted me at the top of the stairs, where he was all dressed up and there were candles lit all around. He said some sweet things and then got on one knee and proposed. He had ordered a cake from my mom that had a giant ring on the top and read “will you marry me?.” It was such a surprising, yet special moment!

Favorite thing to do together: Hang out with our dog Miley and watch movies.

Wedding colors: Navy Blue, Pink, and Gold

Number of guests: about 200

Number in wedding party: 16 including us (7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen)

Wedding Style: Elegant

Beauty style: Classic Glamour

Dress style: It was a fit and flare-style satin ivory gown, strapless, with beading at the top and hip.

Something you did very different: We incorporated Damir’s Bosnian culture by having his Bosnian friends and family pin flower corsages on all of the guests as they arrived for the ceremony. The corsages were made in Bosnia and were brought by his grandmother who traveled here for our big day!

Something you did very traditional: We symbolized the union of marriage with a unity candle ceremony, which we accidentally used the wrong candle sticks to light the unity candle. We don’t think anyone noticed…shhhh

Something you would do all over again: The reception! We had such a great time dancing with our friends; you couldn’t get us off the dance floor.

Something you would never do again: Spend countless hours pondering centerpieces.

Most unique wedding personalization: We had a large number of family members that participated in our wedding. We had siblings and cousins in the bridal party. We had cousins as ushers, attendants, vocalists, and musicians. My uncle officiated the wedding, his aunt was our planner, and my mom made the wedding cake!

Most memorable wedding moment: When we first saw one another. We had a private time coordinated by our photographer before the ceremony. She had him wait for me at the bottom of the staircase in the Scottish Rite lobby with his back turned. I tapped him on the back of the shoulder for him to turn around. It was very special and sweet. It took some of the anxiousness away and made us more comfortable during the ceremony.

Best wedding decision: I loved our wedding colors and the attire of the wedding party. My dress was the second one I tried on, and I felt like it was made just for me. The boys were in classic black tuxes with a touch of fun…pink socks! The bridesmaid’s dresses were unique and flattering, and they wore sparkly gold heels with them (I gave them the shoes as gifts and wrote personal notes to them on the bottoms).

Best wedding overall advice: Enjoy every moment of it! You will never forget it.
